Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) Considerations

Interesting aspect of LVC is that definitions can vary widely, continuing to evolve. How someone considers LVC often shows a lot about the individual than the concept.

For NPS students: what do you consider to be great examples of Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) for your professional community? For your modeling and simulation areas of interest?

This interesting question broadens and deepens steadily as our capabilities make progress. It also provide an opportunity to simultaneously edit in git and see if our changes can be correctly added together.

Live

1. Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) at 29 Palms, California
2. Artillery Live Fire Shoot (Any time our Marines are allowed to actually fire their respective weapon systems)
3. MEU Amphibious Landing Beach Operations Group
4. Any "live fire" attack, in training
5. Infantry Immersion Trainer (IIT)
6. Cyber training: red vs. blue team
7. Aircraft operations: fueling, maintenance, resupply, flying, takeoff/landing, fighting etc.
8. NATO Live Training Exercise, for example CWIX 2022 as part of NATO FEDERATED INTEROPERABILITY
9. MOUT (Military Operations on Urban Terrain)

Virtual

1. Aircraft simulator
2. Supporting Arms Virtual Trainer (SAVT)

4. Cyber education and training facility in a simulated environment

6. Aircraft operations: fueling, maintenance, resupply, flying, takeoff/landing, fighting etc.

Constructive

Counterpoints and Harmony

• In God We Trust... All Others Bring Data
• Is there anything we do in DoD that is NOT a candidate for LVC? Hmmm...
• Interesting to observe that typical progresssion in regular practice is Virtual rehearsal first then Live conduct, VLC perhaps.
• I used to dislike the term "LVC" because it meant everything to everybody. Now I really like the term "LVC" because... it means everything to everbody!
